NYWC SEED MONEY GRANTS 2007

New York Women Composers offers three "seed money grants" of $750 each for concerts or sound recording projects that include music by NYWC members. Concerts or recordings funded will feature the works of three or more composer-members of New York Women Composers for at least half of the project's time-length. The composers to be presented will be chosen from a call for scores issued by NYWC and the grantees after grant approval. The concert organizers choose the music they wish to play according to their tastes. However, at least one of the NYWC composers chosen must be new to the performers; that is, the performers will not have played the music of the composer before. The concert organizers do not need to be members of New York Women Composers. To apply for a recording grant, the successful applicant must already have received a commitment from a record company.

Finances and project completion: Any financial proceeds from the concert or recording go directly to the organizers, not to New York Women Composers. The selected composers do not have to pay any money to the organizers for performing their works. New York Women Composers is not responsible for any additional monies needed to complete the projects. The organizers of the project will be entirely responsible for all the production details and advertising, working with the composers to be presented and with NYWC’s Development Director. The concert program or liner notes must include New York Women Composers as one of the funding agencies. The grant money will be paid directly after successful completion of the project. For concert presentation applications, the concert must be presented by December 31, 2008, or the money will be forfeited.

Application procedures and deadline:  Receipt deadline for the grant application is June 1. The applicant should write a paragraph outlining the proposed project and send it along with professional biographical and promotional materials and a sample sound recording to the address below. The successful applicant(s) will receive a contract specifying that she or he understands the terms of the grant.

Applicants will be judged by the following criteria:

1)       Project visibility

2)       Financial need

3)       Instrumentation

4)       New applicants will receive preference over those who have previously received New York Women Composers funding.
